
A Property Scheme that Leaves Homeowners Powerless
It can happen in a number of ways. Sometimes they forge a signature. Other times they promise to help you restructure your mortgage, if you sign on this dotted line.
But through a variety of schemes, white-collar criminals across the city are scamming homeowners out of their properties.
Jennifer Sinton, a lawyer with South Brooklyn Legal Services, explains why it's so tricky to track down the criminals and hold them accountable. Plus Susan Green, a receptionist at WNYC and victim of a real estate shell company scheme featured in The New York Times, shares her story.
