'Public Obscenities' Play Explores Queerness and Academia in India

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Mar 7, 2023

In a new play, a Bengali-American PhD student named Choton visits his family back in Kolkata alongside his Black American cinematographer boyfriend, Raheem, to interview locals on queer hookup apps. As Choton continues his research, he switches between Bangla and English, Grindr and academia, while wondering about the life he could have lived in India. Writer and director Shayok Misha Chowdhury join us to talk about the bilingual production, "Public Obscenities," running at SoHo Rep until April 9.
