Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at NJPAC
Sun., Nov. 14. $59-$249. 7:30PM

In the 1990s, Sufi music from Pakistan became a global phenomenon thanks to the late, great singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Nusrat’s fans included Peter Gabriel, Pete Townsend, Jeff Buckley and Eddie Vedder.  Nusrat died in 1997, but this music, known as qawwali, continued on – as it had in the Khan family for almost 600 years.  His nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was part of Nusrat’s ensemble, and now keeps the qawwali flame burning with his own group. He was trained from a young age and has also performed some of the best songs in Hollywood, Bollywood (India), and Lollywood (Pakistan). In Pakistan you’d never be able to get tickets to one of Rahat’s concerts, but on Sunday, Nov. 14 in New Jersey at NJPAC, you just might.
