The band called Red Baraat takes the sounds of traditional Punjabi wedding music and marries it to Western funk and rock. It’s an arranged marriage that’s easy to love. The band’s next album, Sound The People, doesn’t come out until the end of June, but they’ve just released the first single from it – a defiant take on an old Punjabi folk song that celebrated white skin. Red Baraat’s version is called "Kala Makhra," or black skin.
