City's Public Housing Heads Down Privatization Road

On Monday, renovations were completed at Ocean Bay Apartments in Far Rockaway, a New York City Housing Authority development that's being operated by a private management company through a federal program called Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD). It's the first example of the partial privatization of NYCHA that's expected to eventually affect 62,000 units. WNYC’s Mirela Iverac joined Morning Edition host Richard Hake to discuss the city’s plan to use RAD and similar programs to repair and renovate its public housing stock.
