Resurrecting Kitty Genovese: A Love Story

On the Media | May 20, 2016

Kitty Genovese's murder on a New York City street in 1964, supposedly witnessed by 38 people but unreported, came to symbolize urban apathy and the "bystander effect". But despite the notoriety of her death, very little is known about her life. A new documentary, The Witness, follows Kitty's brother Bill Genovese on his lengthy pursuit to discover the truth behind her life and murder. Brooke talks to the film's director James Solomon about deconstructing the false narrative around Kitty's murder.
