Rhiannon Giddens – Waterbound (Weekly Music Roundup)

Grammy- and Macarthur-winning singer and fiddler Rhiannon Giddens started out with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who revived the largely forgotten tradition of Black string band music. But she’s had a globetrotting solo career, and now lives in Ireland. Which means that since the pandemic began, she hasn’t been able to get back to North Carolina. And it turns out, there’s a song for that. “Waterbound” is an old fiddle tune that Giddens has arranged, and its refrain, “waterbound and I can’t get home,” is one that will resonate with many land-bound listeners as well. This song from Rhiannon Giddens and its live performance video are part of our Weekly Music Roundup.

AND new episodes of the third season of the podcast Aria Code, hosted by Giddens, start on Wed., March 10.
