Rita Indiana at Flamboyán Theater at The Clemente
April 14. 8PM. $150+up

Rita Indiana had already established herself as one of the Dominican Republic’s most important and most studied novelists when she began releasing music. Drawing initially on the sounds of merengue, salsa, and other Caribbean rhythms, she also used the sounds of electronic pop and rap. She hasn’t done a lot of music, but she did recently release an album called Mandinga Times, which included this banger, “Como Un Dragon,” or ‘like a dragon.’ Novelist and songwriter Rita Indiana presents a new multimedia work, with songs stripped down to piano and drums, on Friday, April 14, at The Clemente Center on the Lower East Side.
