The Montreal Jazz Festival is starting up on June 30, and if you’re thinking, "well, I’m in New York, why would I need to go to Montreal to hear jazz?", the answer lies in the festival’s eclectic lineup, which includes jazz greats like bassist Christian McBride and singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, but also the retro-dance band Pink Martini, and on the closing night, the essential rap group the Roots.
