San Fermin: Live At RadioLoveFest

Soundcheck | Jul 1, 2014

San Fermin began as an outlet from Ellis Ludwig-Leone, a skillful composer of intricately arranged orchestral flourish and a keen ear for pop melody. Named after the festival in Pamplona, Spain -- you know, where the bulls famously run through the streets -- the Brooklyn band won over fans with its superb self-titled album last fall. In a very short time, this intimate project has grown in size -- it's now an sprawling octet showcasing two singers, horns and violin and Ludwig-Leone on piano -- and in scope.

And as its smart, exuberant set BAM indicates, San Fermin has become one of the dynamic, powerful live acts around. Amid a starkly-lit and gorgeously crumbling stage, San Fermin filled the BAM Harvey Theater with jubilant vocal harmonies, interlocking horn and violin passages, and sweeping climactic moments, like on the hit "Sonsick." Even in five songs, it was clear this band unpredictable and irresistible.

Hear San Fermin perform songs from its self-titled album, and debut a new song at Soundcheck’s event at Brooklyn's BAM Harvey Theater, recorded live on July 7 as part of RadioLoveFest.
