Save Our Census!

On the Media | Jun 23, 2017

On April 1st, 2020, the Census Bureau will embark on its decennial mission to count every person in America and document shifts in the population, so that the number of electoral college votes and congressional seats can be adjusted accordingly. This data also helps determine where schools, roads, and grocery stores are built.

However, a funding crisis at the Bureau and the resignation of its director has significantly stymied preparation for 2020. Brooke and Kenneth Prewitt, who served as Census Bureau director from 1998 to 2001, discuss what a crippled Census could mean for the health of our democracy.
