Selected Shorts presents James Joyce’s most memorable story, “The Dead,” in two special one-hour programs hosted by Broadway and television star Cynthia Nixon, with readings by Nixon and award-winning novelist Colum McCann.

Part 1 airs:

  • Thursday, December 25 at 9pm on 93.9FM
  • Sunday, December 28 at 1pm on AM 820 and 10pm on 93.9FM

Part 2 airs:

  • Thursday, January 1 at 9pm on 93.9FM
  • Sunday, January 4 at 1pm on AM 820 and 10pm on 93.9FM

“The Dead” takes place at a New Year’s dinner-dance in Dublin in 1904. It is filled with colorful characters and wonderful period detail, and is both humorous and poignant. “The Dead” was the final story in Joyce’s famous collection "Dubliners," which was published 100 years ago this year.
