Shovel Dance Collective – "Grey Cock" (Weekly Music Roundup)

Shovel Dance Collective is a nine-piece folk ensemble from London. Its roots are in the British folk tradition but its sensibility seems to be that of a young group of musicians who are familiar with the doleful late works of Scott Walker and the sounds of doom-metal. Their song “The Grey Cock” is basically an old folk song about a revenant – a ghost lover who can spend the night with the woman he loves but who must return to… wherever he came from, when the cock crows at daylight.
