The Silk Road Ensemble was founded by cellist Yo Yo Ma and is now led by Grammy and MacArthur award-winner Rhiannon Giddens. The band has always played music from the countries along that fabled trade route, which started in Venice and ended all the way in Japan, but their repertoire has expanded to include new works from composers around the world – even from North America. The Silk Road Ensemble's cross-cultural road trip rolls into our area Saturday, July 16, when they play at Caramoor, up in Katonah, NY.
