The Mexican singer and songwriter Silvana Estrada grew up with the traditional music of the Mexican Gulf Coast; but she also sang in a classical choir as a kid and played jazz as a teen. Mix in a love of the bluesy Portuguese music known as fado and stir it up with the four-string guitar known as a cuatro, and you have a recipe for a truly distinctive musical voice. Estrada’s album, Marchita, was released last year, but this year, for the annual Prototype Festival, she’s doing a version of the album with dance. The Prototype Festival continues this whole week, but her performances, with string quartet and dancers, take place Thursday thru Sunday, Jan. 12-14 at HERE.
