Snow to Disrupt Morning Commute for New Yorkers

First the cold. Now the snow. New York City and Long Island commuters should expect hazardous travel conditions during the morning rush hour with periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that remains in effect for the city and Long Island until noon.

Meteorologists expect snow accumulations of two to four inches with wind gusts up to 20 mph. The snow should end by Tuesday afternoon.

The Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert for today and has readied 500 salt spreaders and 1,600 plows.

Forecasters say the freezing temperatures likely will last through the rest of the workweek.

Alternate side of the street parking in New York City has been suspended for Tuesday. Parking meter rules will remain in effect.

The MTA has implemented its cold weather plan and NJ Transit is cross-honoring systemwide. Commuters are advised to allow additional travel time.
