For ten years, Sonny Singh played trumpet and sang with Red Baraat, the Brooklyn-based purveyors of Punjabi dance music. Now, Singh has recorded uptempo versions of Sikh devotional songs like “Mitar Pyare Nu.” The trumpeter and vocalist Sonny Singh plays Thursday, Sept. 8, as part of the annual Festival of New Trumpet Music, at Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn. His old band, Red Baraat, plays at the New Sounds 40th anniversary party at Brooklyn Bowl on Sept. 21st.
