Alvin Ailey's Artistic Director Robert Battle talks about staging the dance company’s new season, 25 years after its founder’s passing. He is only the third person to head the Company since it was founded in 1958. Born and raised in Florida, he grew up poor, and bow-legged, forced to wear leg braces as a child. Yet he became one of the world’s most respected choreographers and head of one of the nation’s most premiere dance companies. Battle recently accepted a Presidential Medal of Freedom on behalf of Alvin Ailey.
