Student Activists Launch Weekly Integration 'Strikes'

WNYC News | Nov 18, 2019

Scores of students from two Manhattan high schools skipped first period Monday, calling it a strike for integration.

The group Teens Take Charge, which organized the strike, hope to see other New York City schools follow with similar strikes every Monday. They want public school officials to require academic diversity at every high school, and they say integration by race and class will follow. They're also calling for more internships and counselors, and for schools in shared buildings to share resources.
