In this episode: The New York City Subway has inspired album artwork for records by The Velvet Underground, Grandmaster Flash, and Billy Joel, among many others. Robert Del Bagno, the curator of a new exhibition at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn, talks about subway-related album art. Plus, Latin soul king Joe Bataan tells the story behind his infectious 1968 boogaloo hit "Subway Joe."

Then, Detroit-based indie rock band Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. -- named for the NASCAR hero -- performs songs from its new record The Speed Of Things in the Soundcheck studio. 

And Kevin Barry, the award-winning Irish author of City Of Bohane and a new short story collection Dark Lies The Island shares a few favorite songs for Soundcheck's Pick Three series.
