Susan Burton's Path from Prison to Recovery

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jun 13, 2017

Activist and author Susan Burton spent 15 years in and out of prison for drug charges. After completing drug rehabilitation, she dedicated her life to helping women who have been incarcerated. In her memoir, Becoming Ms. Burton: From Prison to Recovery to Leading the Fight for Incarcerated Women, she talks about why it was difficult to start a new life after prison, and how she built a non-profit housing program for newly released women in the Watts neighborhood of L.A. called A New Way of Life.
