Paul Krugman on Biden's Recovery Plans; Assemblyman Ron Kim Responds to Cuomo's Attack; Housing and West Farms; The Teens Are Not Okay

• Paul Krugman, Nobel laureate in economics, New York Times columnist, distinguished professor at the City University of New York Graduate Center, and the author of (now in paperback) Arguing with Zombies: Economics, Politics, and the Fight for a Better Future (W. W. Norton & Company, 2020), offers his analysis on Pres. Biden's economic recovery plans and why deficits shouldn't be a big concern.
• In Wednesday's press briefing Governor Cuomo singled out state legislator Ron Kim in an intensifying back and forth over how the state handled nursing homes and COVID-19. Assemblyman Ron Kim (D 40th District, portions of Whitestone, Flushing and Murray Hill) responds to the Governor's verbal attack and talks about how he thinks the state's nursing home policies have affected his district.
• According to data from the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development, the West Farms section of the Bronx saw some of the highest rates of eviction in 2019. In 2021, the economic toll of the pandemic and an expiring eviction moratorium threaten tenants in the neighborhood. Barika Williams, executive director of the Association for Neighborhood Housing and Development, and Fernando Mancias, ‎supervising attorney in the housing unit for the Bronx at Legal Services NYC, on this and the community-led organizing efforts in response.
• The pandemic has been especially challenging for teenagers and their parents. Abigail Gewirtz, child psychologist, professor in the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development and the author of When the World Feels Like a Scary Place: Essential Conversations for Anxious Parents and Worried Kids (Workman Publishing Company, 2020), offers advice to families on how to cope and communicate.
