The Brian Lehrer Show | Apr 7, 2022

Coming up on today's show:

  • Joan Walsh, writer for The Nation, talks about how progressives are feeling about New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, as she negotiates the state's huge budget and campaigns for a full term.
  • The majority of the New York City Council members are new, and are part of a class that is the most diverse and progressive in city history. Over the next year, Brian Lehrer will get to know all 51 members. This week, Council Member Althea Stevens talks about her priorities for District 16 (Claremont, Concourse, Concourse Village, Highbridge, Morris Heights, Mount Eden, Morrisania).
  • Violence at the airport or over mask mandates, rudeness, crime and reckless driving are all on the rise. Olga Khazan, staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of Weird: The Power of Being an Outsider in an Insider World (Hachette Go, 2020), explores the theories as to why people are behaving so badly.
  • Betsy-Jane Paul-Odionhin, Kayla Ollivierre and Folashade Olatunde, student journalists in the WNYC radio rookies program, talk about their experiences reporting and telling their personal stories on issues of policing, the justice system, crime, public safety and all the big related issues.

Transcripts are posted to each segment as soon as they are available.
