Tony Schwartz begins his show by reading a press release: "The National Endowment for the Arts grants Fordham University Communication Center a grant to study the sound environment of a block-wide band across Manhattan Island. The Director is Tony Schwartz." Schwartz discusses his new project with the prominent media theorist Marshall McLuhan, who says, "I never in my life was in a area as auditory in its concept of space -- as nuclear and discontinuous and unconnected in its sense of space -- as New York City.
