Thousands More Citi Bikes Coming to NYC This Year
Thousands of more Citi Bikes will hit New York's streets later this year.
Citi Bike parent company Motivate said Sunday 1,000 bikes will be put into immediate circulation by the end of June to meet growing demand in the existing system. Another 1,400 will be used when Citi Bike expands its service later this year in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint in Brooklyn. Bicycles will also be available in Long Island City, the first time Citi Bike will be offered in Queens.
The new bikes will be the first designed in a partnership between Motivate and designer Ben Serotta. The company said the models will feature new seats to prevent water from pooling when it rains, a sturdier kick-stand and better gearing for urban riding.
Alta Bicycle Share changed its name to Motivate last year after a changeup in management.
