City Lyric Opera is one of New York’s plucky upstart opera companies that often find unusual ways to present the usual opera fare. Now, with the venues all shuttered, City Lyric Opera has had to figure out how to present Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s music/theater hit The Threepenny Opera to a virtual audience. Their solution: a fully-produced video performance in which the audience participates in, for example, the wedding scene. Originally performed in German, City Lyric Opera is presenting Marc Blitzstein’s popular English translation. City Lyric Opera presents the Threepenny Opera work in two parts on consecutive nights, Thursday/Friday or Saturday/Sunday, this week, Nov. 5-6, 7-8 and next week, Nov. 12-13, 14-15.
