Tinariwen – "Tenere Den" (Weekly Music Roundup)

The Grammy-winning band Tinariwen has been a kind of musical and cultural ambassador for the Tuareg people of the western Sahara for decades. They’re about to release their ninth studio album, Amatssou, in May, and this first single, “Tenere Den,” is out now. It features the distinctive electric guitar sound that has come to be known as Tuareg blues or desert blues. But in addition to the traditional handclaps and call-and-response vocals, Tinariwen also includes touches of American country music on the record, like the fiddle on this track. Tinariwen's new song is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
