Tom O'Horgan, Rochelle Owens, Theodore Hoffman and Seth Allen Talk About "Futz" and Experimental Theater

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Host Richard Pyatt talks about the "chaotic state of life and death" of American theater with cast and crew from a production of "Futz," performed at the La MaMa Theatre. He is joined by Director Tom O'Horgan, Author Rochelle Owens, Producer Theodore Hoffman and Seth Allen who plays the part of Oscar Loop.

Owens explains that the story of Futz was inspired by the thought that "a man and a pig and what horrendous upheaval this would cause if he chose to love the pig completely and humanely...it's a play about personal freedom and morality and who is moral, who is immoral and who is amoral."

The guests discuss "Hair" and how experimentation in off-broadway performances compares to Broadway or film productions.
