2018 Is Off to a Violent Start

As people across the world celebrate the new year, 2018 is already off to a violent start in the United States.
At least 50 people have been killed in over 130 gun related incidents in the first days of 2018, according to Gun Violence Archive, an independent non-profit organization tracking gun violence in the U.S.
President Donald Trump vowed to end “the American carnage” after the Las Vegas massacre in October, but the United States remains an outlier when it comes to gun violence. In 2017, the United States had the most gun-related incidents and deaths on record since 2014, when Gun Violence Archive started keeping track.
Alex Yablon, a reporter at The Trace, a non-profit news outlet focusing on gun-related reporting using GVA statistics, discusses the gun-related incidents so far this year.
