A Tribe Called Red at Open Air (99 Scott Ave)
Tickets: $25. 21+. Doors at 7 pm. RAIN or SHINE

The members of A Tribe Called Red were clearly inspired by the hip hop collective A Tribe Called Quest. But instead of focusing on issues of urban African-Americans, this Canadian trio talks about the history and the continued hardships of the First Nations people north of the border. They often combine their electronic production techniques with traditional chanting and drumming , as in this piece called “Electric Pow Wow Drum.” The First Nations trio plays on Friday, Sept. 13, at Open Air, 99 Scott Avenue in Brooklyn.
