Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy are both violinist, both from South Asian families, and both interested in combining the sounds of Indian raga with jazz improvisation, chamber music, and even some hints of the American South, where Trina Basu grew up. Together, they’ve done an album called Nakshatra, which includes arrangements of older South Indian music, an early Ravi Shankar film score, and some original music, like this piece called “Migration,” a tribute to their respective families whose journeys brought them here. Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy celebrate their new album with a show at National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
