The Russian-backed forces of President Bashar al-Assad have all but regained control of Syria, leaving hundreds of thousands dead and more than half of the country's population displaced. This week, President Trump threatened Russia over its backing of Assad, whom Trump referred to as a "Gas Killing Animal."
