Each year at this time, the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival offers an introduction to what’s currently going on in Ukraine, and, increasingly in the past two years, in the Ukrainian diaspora. For the next three nights, a rotating cast of musicians will play new Ukrainian and Ukrainian-American music; the March 29th concert features Virko Baley. Born in Ukraine but based for nearly half a century at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Baley is marking his 85^th birthday with excerpts from pieces like the one called “Dream Time.” Baley's music is the focus of Friday night’s concert in the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival, which opens Thurs., Mar. 28 and runs through Saturday, Mar. 30 at the Dimenna Center.
