Uncovering New York's Biggest Musical Act: Whales

New York’s whale population has risen in recent years. According to the director of the Ocean Giant’s Program at the New York Aquarium on Coney Island, “In less distance out to sea than your average New Yorker's commute home, there is likely a whale singing at this very moment." 

Mark Baumgartner, associate scientist at the biology department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, talked about a new underwater microphone 22 miles off the shore of Fire Island which is recording whale songs.
