Pat Martino @ Jazz Standard (New York, NY) Pat Martino is a jazz guitarist with a story. Martino began playing professionally in 1961. In 1976, he was diagnosed with AVM, a brain condition, which led him to undergo memory compromising brain surgery. After extensive therapy and studying, Martino took back his career in 1987 with his album, The Return. This weekend, catch him at the Jazz Standard with his trio and special guests Adam Niewood (tenor sax) and Alex Norris (trumpet). Jonathan Poretz: The Music of Frank Sinatra @ SF Jazz (San Francisco, CA) This Sunday at San Francisco’s Joe Henderson Lab, artist Jonathan Poretz takes on the Sinatra Songbook. Poretz has worked with jazz luminaries including: trumpeters Charlie Shavers and Snooky Young, guitarists Chuck Wayne, Barney Kessel and Joe Puma. This is not his first time channeling Ol’ Blue eyes, who he played in the touring show The Rat Pack Is Back and in his own show Sex, Swagger & Swing: Sinatra and Darin in the Concert That Never Was. Now he’ll be playing Jonathan Poretz on stage, but don’t worry, singing the same timeless music.
