When Good People Kill

The Brian Lehrer Show | Jan 15, 2015

Violence routinely conjures thoughts of evil, rage and other abhorrent associations, but authors Alan Fiske and Tage Rai say morality is in fact at the root of most violence. Their new book, Virtuous Violence: Hurting and Killing to Create, Sustain, End, and Honor Social Relationships (Cambridge University Press, 2015), looks at how beliefs of what is right and wrong, however misguided, are at the core of violence. They join us today to discuss how their theory applies to contemporary sources of violence, from terrorism to civil obedience.
