Where the Candidates Stand on Israel

All 5 presidential candidates addressed U.S.-Israeli relations in speeches yesterday; everyone but Bernie Sanders spoke before AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee).

“Even within this one particular lobby, there’s a great diversity of Jews represented,” said Jane Eisner, editor-in-chief of The Forward. And many American Jews are concerned about threats to free speech and freedom of religion in Israel.

Clinton tends to be more outwardly supportive of Netanyahu's government's concerns about security, said Eisner. For those to her political right, they'll look more to her record as Secretary of State than what she said yesterday to AIPAC, as an indication of how she would conduct future relations.

As for the way AIPAC members greeted Trump upon arrival, Eisner said she was ashamed. "I was really really hoping that he'd be treated with coldness, not warmth."
