In the April issue of Harpers, the historian, activist, and author of The Field Guide to Getting Lost and The Encyclopedia of Trouble and Spaciousness (Trinity University Press, 2014) Rebecca Solnit tells her story of how she ended up going from junior high to a GED to community college, and asks if it wouldn't make sense for more students to avoid the sometimes treacherous social maelstrom that high school can be.
