Why an FBI Agent Colluded with Mobster Whitey Bulger

The Leonard Lopate Show | Aug 25, 2015

Dick Lehr, a former reporter with the Boston Globe, discusses his new book Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI, and a Devil's Deal, co-written with Gerard O'Neill. It tells the story of the relationship between infamous Boston mobster Whitey Bulger, and the FBI agent he colluded with for decades, John Connolly, who offered Bulger protection in return for helping the Feds eliminate Boston’s Italian mafia. But Bulger, in a blizzard of gangland killings, took over the city’s drug trade.
