A Winter Village Just a Ferry Ride Away

COVID is putting a damper on indoor events. But Governors Island is now open year-round, and its first-ever winter village will be open on Christmas. Weekend Edition host David Furst spoke with Clare Newman, President and CEO of The Trust for Governors Island, about it.

"Our goal is really to give folks the experience of having a small-town winter," said Newman. "We set up this center of activity nestled in between historic buildings...and what we have there is an ice-skating rink, food vendors with fire pits, and then we set out a ton of different fun games for people to play."
