#3505: World Music Ports of Call

Listen to an hour of world music which takes us to Madagascar, to Poland, and the Reunion Islands in the Indian Ocean, and to various other ports of call. Hear music from Nigeria by sax player Femi Kuti, and then music by his late father, Fela Kuti, as adapted by Kronos and members of TV on the Radio for the compilation, “Red Hot and Fela.” Listen to Malagasy music from the uniquely-voiced singer and guitar player hailing from Madagascar, Lala Njava, who on her debut solo record, Malagasy Blues Song, recalls the beauty of her homeland.   There’s also music from the Reunion Islands by Christine Salem, the traditional maloya, the once-banned, African-influenced music of the Creole descendants of the slaves who worked the island's sugar plantations. Plus, music from European-based South Indian violinist Jyotsna Srikanth, the Polish band Sutari, and more.
