Leopold Stokowski Conducts

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

One in this series of New York Philharmonic programs intended for young audiences featuring musical analysis interspersed with performance. This program begins with conductor Leopold Stokowski leading the Philharmonic in "The Soldier's Chorus" from Gounod's "Faust." He then uses Stephen Foster's "Tioga Waltz" to demonstrate the versatility of the flute, followed by "The March of the Little Lead Soldiers." Other pieces performed include "Tubby the Tuba" by George Kleinsinger and Herman Hupfeld's "When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba (Down in Cuba)," both with tuba player William Bell.
