mary in the junkyard - "Blood" (Soundcheck Podcast)

The buzzed-about London band called mary in the junkyard started as half of a string quartet, before cellist Clari Freeman-Taylor and violist Saya Barbaglia decided to pick up the guitar and bass respectively. They added drummer David Addison and began writing songs built around Freeman-Taylor’s fragile, almost Björk-like vocals and her often surreal lyrics. They’ve released a couple of EPs that quickly established their slightly left-of-center sound, and on July 3, they’ll finally put out their debut LP, called Role Model Hermit. Their live set from our Manhattan studios is today’s episode of Soundcheck, our twice-weekly podcast, available wherever you get podcasts, or at newsounds.org.
