In Season: meats

WNYC News | May 22

If you're firing up the grill this Memorial Day Weekend -- regardless of the weather -- there's plenty of fresh, locally raised meats available at market. You can find you classic beef burgers and hotdogs, as well as spare ribs and turkey burgers.

Amelia Tarpey, Program and Publicity Manager for GrowNYC Greenmarkets, says you'll get quality cuts, and you'll help sustain regional agriculture. She says local meat producers help keep markets running year round, but especially during the dormant season for fruits and vegetables.

Right now at market, ground beef is going for about $11 to $14 per pound.
