Julieta Venegas – "La Linea" (Soundcheck Podcast)

The Mexican singer and songwriter Julieta Venegas was born in California and grew up in Tijuana. She grew up bilingual, both in terms of the languages she speaks and the music she makes. The sounds of American pop and rock were formative influences, but over the years she’s grown closer to the regional Mexican styles that her parents used to listen to. That’s reflected in her new album, Norteña, and in the instruments she plays, including the accordion, the small guitar-like instrument known as cuatro, and the good old piano. Her full set for us, three songs played on three different instruments, is the latest episode of Soundcheck, our twice weekly podcast, available wherever you get podcasts or at newsounds.org.
