The Scottish band Camera Obscura released their first album 25 years ago. Their brand of heartfelt, sometimes melancholy indie pop meant they were often compared to fellow Scottish band Belle & Sebastian, but Camera Obscura set about creating their own sound and amassing a fiercely loyal audience, until the death in 2015 of keyboardist Carey Lander. The band went on an extended hiatus after that, until a Belle & Sebastian music cruise brought them back. Now Camera Obscura are back, with a recent record and a tour. They play on May 28 at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City.
