What a carriage driver thinks about the city's push to end Central Park's carriage horse industry

WNYC News | 43 min ago

The recent news that the New York City Council is pushing to phase out carriage horses in Central Park has carriage drivers worried about their future.

Mayor Mamdani announced that the horse carriage industry is "coming to an end in New York City.” This has been a long time priority from animal rights advocates, and the city council will hold a vote next week on legislation that will ban carriage horses in Central Park.

Christina Hansen, who is a horse carriage cab driver in the city, joins WNYC's Sean Carlson to talk more about how this will affect her and other carriage drivers in the city.
