It's fall but that means surf's up for some urban surfers in New York City

WNYC News | 11 hours ago

Surfers in the northeast say that fall surfing can be the best surfing. The crowds thin out. The water is still on the warmer side. And you can reliably depend on some serious waves.

At first, that wasn't the case this year. It was a September marked by unusually smooth conditions. And then a major nor'easter hit.

Benjamin Doughty has been watching the conditions every day from his perch in Rockaway Beach. He launched the daily NYC Surf Report on Instagram a few months ago and it's been getting increasing attention in the surf community.

Benjamin joins Weekend Edition host David Furst to talk about his reports and surfing in New York City.
