"We got licked tonight:" Rutgers Football fumbles its first game of the season

Hoards of students showed up to SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey to watch the Rutgers University football team last week for the first game of the season.

With the stands full of Scarlet Knights fans ready to watch their beloved team square off against the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, Rutgers fumbled what was supposed to be an easy win for the hometown favorites. 

"They outcoached me. They outplayed our players. We got licked tonight, and there's no other thing to say about it," Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said to the media after his team's monumental 37-21 loss. 

James Mertz is a sports editor at The Daily Targum, Rutgers University's student newspaper. He joined WNYC's Michael Hill to talk about the catastrophic Game 1 and what comes next for the Scarlet Knights.
