In Season: June-bearing strawberries

WNYC News | Jun 5

The prized June-bearing strawberry season is peaking in the New York region. The window for them is short, but what you get is a smaller but sweeter and juicier strawberry.

Amelia Tarpey, Program and Publicity Manager for GrowNYC Greenmarkets, says summer is a perfect time for a strawberry shortcake with fresh cream from the market to make homemade whipped cream. And to avoid wasting any part of the fruit, use the strawberry tops to infuse into vinegars or liquors.

Right now at market, strawberries are going for about $5 to $8 per pound.
